SBU CI warns Ukrainians about recruitment attempts by Russia’s FSB during visits to temporarily occupied territories
SBU CI records systematic attempts of Russian special services to lure Ukrainians into activity against Ukrainian state security.
SBU employees established that a resident of Henichesk district, Kherson region came into view of Russia’s FSB during a visit to his relatives in temporarily occupied Crimea.
During his next visit to Crimea, the man was detained by Russia’s border guards under a false pretext. After that the man was transferred to the so-called crossing-point “Dzhankoi”. Using psychological pressure and threats to the man’s relatives, representatives of Russia’s special services were pushing him to confidentially collaborate with FSB.
According to the curators’ original plan, the man was to collect information on activity of a Kherson regional NGO, as well as information on movement of Ukrainian military forces, deployed in Kherson region. The “agent” was to submit the intelligence via electronic communications.
The Ukrainian citizen gave detailed testimony on recruitment and received tasks to the counter-intelligence.
Taking into consideration the fact that the Ukrainian citizen voluntarily informed SBU about his contact with FSB and didn’t carry out any task of the foreign special service, Kherson City Court released him from the criminal responsibility stipulated by Part 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
SBU recalls that citizens of Ukraine are released from criminal liability if they did not commit any acts requested by a foreign state, foreign organization or their representatives and voluntarily reported on links with them and the received task.
