Cherkasy region: SBU suspects Smila Council Head of forgery in office
SBU suspects the Head of Smila Council of abuse of authority while holding an exceptional session.
SBU employees established that the third-rank official of the local self-government authority convened the exceptional session in October, 2018. Lobbying his personal interests, the official informed only part of the city councilors about the session. In consequence, only 16 city councilors out of necessary 19 were present, the rest of the city councilors could not possibly vote. As a result, the city council took the decision to choose the only energy service provider of the region. As of now, several investigations are ongoing upon the fact of public funds embezzlement by the above energy service provider.
Allegedly, the activity of the provider resulted in annual problems with heat supply in Smila. Apart from that, several public funds issues, as well as land issues were reviewed at that session with violations of the procedure.
It was established that the official forged many signatures of the absent city councilors of Smila to falsify the “unanimous” decision of the session.
The official was served a notice of suspicion of interference with activity of a local council and forgery in office (P. 1 Art. 351 and P. 1 Art. 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The operation was conducted jointly with the National Police under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Cherkasy region.
