Kherson region: SBU uncovers embezzlement of state funds allocated for response to coronavirus

The SBU uncovered embezzlement of state funds allocated for medical institutions in Kherson region to fight against pandemic coronavirus COVID-19.

Allegedly, officials of one of the district centers of general health care set up a mechanism of appropriation of money, which were transferred to the health care institution by district council to deter the infectious disease. To implement the scheme, hospital representatives contracted with a private company from the city of Kakhovka to purchase protective masks, gowns and disinfectants for the medical staff.

The suspects significantly overpriced the mentioned goods. According to preliminary estimates, the state suffered over UAH 110,000 (USD 4,000) losses.

The investigative actions to bring to responsibility all involved are ongoing within the criminal proceeding initiated under Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
