SBU exposes corrupt chief of Department for preventive activity of National Police in Zaporizzhya region

SBU exposed a chief of the Department for preventive activity of the Main Directorate of National Police in Zaporizzhya region, who systematically demanded bribes for issuing licenses on weapons.

Allegedly, the colonel of police systematically demanded bribe for issuing licenses on hunting smoothbore, rifled weapons and on permits to keep, wear devices for shooting rubber bullets of traumatic action. The "fee" of the police officer was UAH 6,000 (USD 220) for one license.

SBU operatives documented several episodes of the policeman’s misconduct.

The colonel, in particular, demanded UAH 30,000 (over USD 1,000) from a local resident for permitting five smoothbore and traumatic weapons. Law enforcement officers detained the attacker at the workplace when he received the second part of the bribe in the amount of UAH 24,000 (USD 900).

Within the criminal proceeding initiated under Part 3 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the issue of serving the suspect a notice of suspicion and choosing a type of detention for him is being decided.

The investigation is ongoing.

The operation was conducted jointly with the investigators of the National Bureau of Investigations in Melitopol under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Kherson  region.
