In the framework of criminal proceedings initiated under Art.191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, SBU officers discovered a large-scale misappropriation of local budget funds for landscaping the Dnipro River.

SBU officers established that in 2018-19 one of the municipal enterprises held tenders for the improvement of the city.  Thus, four local commercial structures won. Allegedly, some of the funds were misappropriated by entering into financial documentation false information about the volume of work performed. According to intelligence, almost 30 percent of the work was carried out only on paper.

According to experts, this could have caused emergencies, including the fall of damaged trees, which are a significant threat to the life and health of citizens.

Law enforcement officers conducted a number of searches in the offices of contractor firms and seized financial and economic documentation, as well as other evidences proving their illegal activity.

The information on the involvement of utility company officials is being checked.

The operation was conducted jointly with the National Police investigators under the procedural guidance of Dnipropetrovsk local Prosecutor's Office No. 4.
