Dnipropetrovsk region: SBU uncovers embezzlement of Ministry of Defense funds

SBU in Dnipropetrovsk region under the supervision of Prosecutor’s Office uncovers illicit scheme of embezzlement of state funds, allocated for Armed Forces needs.

SBU established, that during 2015-2017 the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, represented by chief of one of the central departments of Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kyiv and private company from Kryvyi Rih concluded a number of contracts. Businessmen were “protected” to supply oils to the Ministry of Defense worth over UAH 33,000,000 (USD 1,200,000), manufactured by the contractor on their own specifications.

Law enforcement documented that the businessmen supplied oils of substantially lower quality, than stated in official documentation, and therefore significantly cheaper.

The suppliers intentionally provided false cost of the materials in official documentation. The authorized expertizes estimate that just one contract led to over UAH 1,000,000 (USD 37,000) losses to the state.

During the searches at the official of Armed Forces of Ukraine and the directors of private company, law enforcement seized more evidence of their illicit activity.

Within the framework of criminal proceeding, the Armed Forces official is served a notice of suspicion of the crime under Part 2 Article 364, as well as the businessman is served a notice of suspicion of the crime under Part 5 Article 191 and Part 1 Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The issues of choosing for them types of detention are being solved.

The operation was conducted under the procedural supervision of the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Prosecutor’s Office of Dnipropetrovsk region.
