SBU in Donetsk region exposed embezzlement of UAH 10,000,000 (USD 370,000) budget funds, allocated for fight against pandemic coronavirus.

SBU officers established that the resident of Kramatorsk set up a scheme of appropriation of funds of the regional branch "Donetsk railway" of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC, allocated for providing workers with personal protective equipment. The suspect planned to supply the railway company with over 700,000 protective masks of questionable origin overpriced. According to preliminary estimates of experts, the scheme could have brought over UAH 10,000,000 (USD 37,000) losses to the state.

The law enforcement blocked the supply of the counterfeited masks and prevented losses to the state. Within the criminal proceeding under Part 5 Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the investigative actions to bring to responsibility all involved individuals are ongoing.

The operation was conducted jointly with the Department of Strategic Investigations of the National Police under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Donetsk region.
