SBU detains deserter attempting to sell components for military radioset
The Security Service of Ukraine suspects the head of the radio station of one of the military units, located in Khmelnytskyi region, of embezzlement of defense equipment.
Allegedly, the chief illegally dismantled the components of the radar equipment and radio reception units for sale. The stolen property was stored at his place of residence in the regional center. Additionally, the suspect was looking for his clients among precious metals dealers, especially in the local radio markets.
However, at the end of April the serviceman, in order to avoid responsibility, voluntarily left the duty area and hid for some time in the region, as well as in Lviv region.
After urgent investigative actions, law enforcement officers detained the deserter in Khmelnytskyi city.
The offender was served a notice of suspicion of embezzlement of military property and desertion committed in a special period (Part 3 Art.410 and Part 3 Art. 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The custody as type of detention has been chosen. The stolen components for the radio station were arrested.
In case the guilty is proven, the suspect may expect for 5 to 12 years of imprisonment.
Measures to expose illegal activity were conducted jointly with the State Bureau of Investigations under the procedural supervision of the Military Prosecutor's Office of Khmelnytskyi garrison in Western region of Ukraine.
