Poltava region: SBU suspects deputy of district council of receiving USD 160,000 for land allotment
The SBU uncovered a deputy of a district council of Poltava region involved in taking a bribe.
Allegedly, the deputy extorted money from a local resident. For USD 160,000, the offender promised to help to obtain 100 hectares of land for farming.
The deputy involved intermediaries, in particular, a local crime lord and the head of the project organization, who had to influence the officials of the State GeoCadastre to allocate a landplot.
The law enforcement detained a deputy in accordance with the Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine on a street of a regional center after receiving the full sum of bribe.
During the searches in offenders’ residences and cars, SBU officers seized USD 184,000, EUR 4,750 and UAH 244,000, allegedly obtained illegally.
Three offenders received a notice of suspicion. The type of detention is being chosen.
The investigation is ongoing within a criminal proceeding initiated for abuse of office in order to bring to justice all the people involved in illegal activity. The article provides imprisonment for a term from 3 to 8 years with confiscation of property.
The operation was conducted jointly with the Main National Police Department in Poltava region under the legal supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
