Kryvyi Rih: SBU exposes underground manufacture of low-quality counterfeit antiseptics

The Security Service of Ukraine blocked the production and sale of wholesale batches of counterfeit antiseptics in Dnipropetrovsk region.

Three residents of Kryvyi Rih organized the illegal production of antiseptics for sale. The underground shop was set up on the Kryvyi Rih outskirts in a rented property on the closed territory of an industrial base.

The suspects produced the counterfeit goods under the guise of well-known domestic brands from raw materials of dubious origin. They searched for clients via the Internet and sent the product using postal services. The dealers also sold counterfeit goods in their own wholesale and retail shops.

During the searches of the underground manufacture, as well as the suspects’ cars and residences, the law enforcement seized almost 4,000 bottles of ready-to-sell counterfeit antiseptic, 300 liters of alcohol of unknown origin, glycerin, empty containers, printed labels and black accounting records.

According to preliminary estimates, the total value of the seized product is almost UAH 1 million (USD 37,000).

The issue of serving the detainees notices of suspicion is being settled.

The SBU is checking the information on the involvement of law enforcement officials in facilitating the illegal activities.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Kryvyi Rih Local Prosecutor's Office № 2.
