The Security Service of Ukraine exposed a deputy of a district council on large-scale embezzlement of budget funds allocated on repair of state roads in Rivne region.

SBU officers established that a deputy of Sarny district council is an owner of constructing company. In 2017, the management of the company concluded a deal with the Service of roads of Rivne region for roads repairing in the region. The project, funded by state budget, cost almost UAH 29,000,000 (USD 1,070,0000).

SBU officers documented that the deputy jointly with a director of his own company overpriced the repair. The contractors put false quantity of delivered products into transporting services forms, consignment notes.

The accomplices misappropriated almost 10% of allocated on the project budget funds. According to experts, their actions led to UAH 2,700,000 (USD 100,000) losses to the state.

The law enforcement conducted 13 searches at suspects’ offices and homes, seized over UAH 800,000 (USD 30,000), computers, documents, data carriers proving the illegal activity. The court arrested private and commercial property as well as the vehicles of the suspects.

The deputy of the Sarny dstrict council and his accomplice are served notices of suspicion of committing the crimes under Part 5 Article 191, Part 2 Article 209, Part 2 Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The operation was conducted jointly with the National Police under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Rivne region.
