Luhansk region: SBU investigates mining of roadside area near residential place by militants
The Security Service of Ukraine is investigating mining of the area near the contact line close to the village of Zholobok in the Popasna district by militants of the so-called LNR.
The 50-square-meter danger zone was discovered by servicemen of the engineering and sapper unit of the Joint Forces Operation. During the inspection, the SBU investigators recorded that the suspects planted mines with a density of 4 units per 1 square meter. 157 PMN-2 anti-personnel mines were seized from the scene.
Allegedly, the munitions were set up by members of illegal armed formations during combat actions on the East of Ukraine.
The terrorist attacks created a deadly zone near the highway and homesteads of local residents.
Within a framework of criminal proceeding initiated by the SBU under Part 1 Article 14 and Part 1 Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime and other involved.
The operation was conducted jointly with military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine, servicemen of the JFO and the National Police.
To remind, the usage of PNM-2 antipersonnel mines, which are in the inventory of the Russian Armed Forces, is prohibited by the 1997 Ottawa Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Antipersonnel Mines and on Their Destruction.
