Kharkiv region: SBU stops fuel theft in Armed Forces Support Center

SBU exposed in Kharkiv region fuel embezzlement in the support center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The operatives of the special service established that the middle managers of the center set up systematic misappropriation of fuels and lubricants intended for the Ukrainian army needs. The attacker personally took out diesel and gasoline of the military unit in small batches. Afterwards, the petrol was stored in intermediary warehouses and sold in wholesale batches to local entrepreneurs for cash .

Within the framework of the criminal proceedings, SBU officers documented three episodes of petrol, oil and and lubricants theft totaling more than 5 tons.

As a result, a vehicle of mediators were detained while transporting another batch of 3 tons of diesel fuel illegally purchased from servicemen.

During six searches conducted in the offices of the Armed Forces Support Center and at the suspects’ places of residence, the law enforcement found evidences of corruption, as well as money received from the deal.     

The issue of serving the offender a suspicion notice of committing the crime under Part 3 Art. 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is being decided. The Article provides for up to 12 years of imprisonment.

The urgent investigative actions are under way.

The operation was carried out jointly with the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigations  in Poltava city under the procedural guidance of the Military Prosecutor's Office of Kharkiv garrison.
