SBU serves notice of suspicion to agent of Main Directorate of General Staff of Russian Armed Forces

Investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine served a notice of suspicion to the chief of the operational unit of the intelligence department of the staff of Western Military District of the 74th intelligence center of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of Russian Armed Forces.

Within the criminal proceeding under Part 4 of Art. 27, Part 1 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, SBU officers documented that a Russian spy incited Ukrainian citizens to commit treason to the detriment of sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability, defense capabilities, state, economic and information security of the state.

In 2017, he persuaded the Deputy Chief of the Protocol Service of the Prime Minister of Ukraine into treason. The Ukrainian official agreed to collect and pass to the Russian special services information in the field of defense, economy and foreign relations of Ukraine, circulating within the system of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The Main Investigative Department of the Security Service of Ukraine continues the pre-trial investigation regarding the representatives of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces. Procedural supervision in criminal proceeding is provided by the Office of the Prosecutor General, and operational support is provided by the Counterintelligence Department of the Security Service of Ukraine.

To remind, the indictment against the former Deputy Chief of the Protocol Service of the Prime Minister was sent to court. According to the results of the trial, he was sentenced to a real term.
