SBU detains couple of drug couriers from Rivne region while precursors smuggling for UAH 3 million

Officers of the Security Service of Ukraine detained drug couriers from Rivne region during an attempt to smuggle precursors from the European Union. A consignment of pseudoephedrine worth over UAH 3 million was seized.

According to the investigation, the drug trafficking was organized by a married couple who import and sell used cars from Europe in Ukraine. By the order of representatives of local criminals, the couple transported to our country wholesale consignments of pseudoephedrine-containing pills "Cirrus", which are used for the synthesis of meth. The criminals received the "goods" from foreign suppliers and, hiding it in the technological cavities of car, transported across the state border.

The smugglers were detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine on the customs post “Yahodyn”, during the next attempt of smuggling precursors. In the fuel tank of the car they imported, law enforcement officers found more than 170,000 drug-containing pills weighing 21 kilograms.

In the framework of criminal proceeding initiated under Art.  305 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the SBU Office in Rivne region investigators served suspicion notices to detainees. The issue of choosing a type of detention is being settled. The investigative actions are under way. The operation was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office of Rivne region.
