SBU CI Department officers exposed in Kyiv city a senior official of the Directorate of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine on receiving kickbacks for decision making on financing research and design works, including in the field of defence industry complex.

The operatives of the special service established that the official demanded 10% of the amount allocated for the state defence order in the interests of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine. The development concerned military defence technologies. Law enforcement officers detained the official in Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv city, according to Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine when receiving USD 5 thousand and UAH 165 thousand from the director of one of the defence plants of Kyiv region.

Within the framework of criminal proceedings initiated under Part 3 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine the investigations are under way. The issue of choosing a type of detention for the official is being settled. The operation was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv Local Prosecutor's Office No. 6.
