Lviv region: SBU uncovers embezzlement of millions of state funds allocated to support servicemen

The Security Service of Ukraine uncovered the fact of embezzlement of state funds during the procurement of food stuffs for the needs of the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy for more than 16 million hryvnias.

Operatives of the special service have found that during 2017-2020 a officials of the Academy purchased food stuffs at overvalued prices in affiliated business entities. During the tender bidding, the bidders formed the "necessary" qualification requirements and unreasonably overestimated the cost of supplies. According to preliminary investigation data, the organizers received more than 4 million hryvnias every year.

Law enforcement officers documented numerous facts of conspiracy of academy officials and businessmen during the purchase of food stuffs. Then they moved out budget assets in the shadows through the dummy companies. During the investigation in the office and at the residence of the heads of the supplier's company, law enforcement officers found documents confirming the illegal activities of the malefactors, as well as more than UAH 1.2 million, USD 5 thousand and EUR 3.5 thousand.

Within the framework of criminal proceedings initiated under Part 3 Art. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, investigations are ongoing. The involvement of managers of all levels in abuse of office is being established. The operation was conducted jointly with the investigators of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region under the procedural supervision of the Regional Prosecutor's Office.
