Kyiv city: SBU uncovers legalization of internationally wanted foreigners

SBU uncovered in Kyiv city facts of illegal legalization of foreigners in our country, including internationally wanted criminals.

According to the pre-trial investigation, the illegal "business" was organized by a previously convicted of serious crimes Kyiv city resident. He set up an underground "passport office" in his relative's apartment in Brovary city.

Through connections in criminal circles, the man bought stolen documents, changed personal data and pasted other people's photos. The cost of counterfeits ranged from USD 600 to 4 000. The customers of such "naturalization" were mainly immigrants from Asian countries, whose stay in Ukraine has expired, and wanted criminals. The offender was detained in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the capital while selling a biometric passport to another client for USD 1100. Earlier law enforcement officers documented the receipt of USD 2000 for the production of a forged driver's license and Ukrainian passport.

According to intelligence, shortly before the detection, the attacker received an order to prepare documents for a group of extremists who planned to leave Ukraine for the EU. During searches in an underground workshop in Brovary city and in the detainee's car the law enforcement officers seized 4 more copies of fake driver's licenses, passport forms, certificates of name change, seals of domestic and foreign government agencies, and computer equipment.

Within the framework of criminal proceedings initiated under Part 3 Art. 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine the detainee is served suspicion notice.  The issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being decided. Other persons involved in illegal activities are being identified. The measures to detect the offenders were conducted jointly with the National Police investigators under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv Local Prosecutor's Office №10.
