Luhansk region: Exposed by SBU drug smuggler is sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment

A smuggler, detained by the SBU for attempting to smuggle a wholesale consignment of drugs across the state border worth UAH 2.5 million was sentenced to imprisonment.

The law enforcement officers exposed the criminal, a resident of Popasnyanskyi district, in June 2017 at the “Pisky” checkpoint in Kharkiv region. SBU officers found 37 containers with cannabis weighing almost 8 kilograms in the offender’s vehicle. The drugs were hidden in the gas tank of the vehicle.

The smuggler tried to transport the detected drugs to Russia for sale in Moscow city.

Kreminskyi district court found offender’s guilty under Part 2 Art. 15, Part 3 Art. 305, Part 3 Art. 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to ten years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The sentence came into force.

The operation was conducted jointly with with the State Border Guard Service under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Luhansk region.
