SBU blocks large-scale smuggling of psychotropic substances abroad
SBU terminates the activities of a drug gang that planned to smuggle a large consignment of psychotropic substances abroad.
According to the investigation, drug trafficking was organized by residents of Cherkasy and Sumy regions. They were going to transport "goods" by drug couriers in private vehicles across the state border outside the checkpoint.
Law enforcement officers "intercepted" a consignment of drugs near the Russian border. During the inspection of the car, more than 250 kilograms of the chemical packaged in 12 bags were found. The experts confirmed that almost 30 kilograms of cargo is a ready-made psychotropic substance mephedrone. Its retail price on the “black market” tops UAH 15,000,000 (USD 555,555). The rest of substances are under examination.
During the searches, investigators and operatives of the special service found a warehouse located on the territory of one of the garage cooperatives in the region bordering Russia. The law enforcement officers detected more than 360 liters of chemical components in it. At the places of temporary residence of smugglers records with contacts of customers, which were added to the case file, were also seized.
Within the framework of criminal proceeding initiated under Part 2 Art. 305 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine the SBU investigators settle the issues of serving involved persons suspicion notices and choosing preventive measure. The blocking of drug traffic was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office of Cherkasy region.
