SBU discovered in Zaporizzhya region underground manufacture of counterfeit alcohol and blocked its sale via region’s retail network.

Allegedly, three residents of the regional center set up illegal business in the workshop arranged in the group’s organizer private house. Some of the finished products were sold wholesale to local underground vodka producers, while the rest were realized at retail. According to intelligence, every month they produced up to 15 tons of alcohol worth UAH 2,200,000 (USD 81,482).

During searches at clandestine workshop, the law enforcement found almost 4 tons of alcohol, 8 tons of alcohol-containing mixtures, fragrant additives and equipment for counterfeit production. The confiscated goods are estimated to UAH 1,000,000 (USD 37,038).

The criminal proceedings were initiated under Part 1. Art. 199 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Currently, law enforcement officers are identifying the clients. Measures to seize handicraft alcohol are underway.

The issue of serving the offenders suspicion notices is being decided.

The operation was carried out jointly with the Main Department of National Police in Zaporizzhya region under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
