SBU Head Ivan Bakanov congratulated military CI officers on their professional holiday and presented them with awards.

“Military counterintelligence resists main hostile forces. The results of your work confirm that you are quite successful in counteracting the enemy. No wonder that this year ten best military counterintelligence officers have been nominated for state awards,” Ivan Bakanov said.

In particular, he thanked officers serving in eastern Ukraine and participating in the Joint Forces Operation.

The SBU Head emphasized counterintelligence results, especially detention of 40 militants and 15 foreign agents, prevention of terrorist attacks in the Joint Forces operation area. The department also uncovered many caches of illegal weapons and ammunition.

According to Ivan Bakanov, during the direct armed aggression, military CI has a great responsibility to protect national security.

To note, in 2020, the SBU Military CI exposed 3 spies, 15 enemy agents, 40 members of IAF, and prevented terrorist attacks in the area of ​​the Joint Forces operation. Due to the SBU investigations, the court passed 47 judgements, including 4 individuals convicted of high treason.
