Former Deputy Minister whom SSU exposed on multimillion-dollar bribe will spend 10 years behind bars
Following an investigation by the SSU, court has sentenced former Deputy Minister for Temporarily Occupied Territories and IDPs of Ukraine to 10 years in prison. He was found guilty of extorting and receiving a multimillion-dollar bribe.
The SSU detained the ex-official and his assistant in August 2019 when they received part of the bribe, USD 480,000.
The investigators documented that the official extorted USD 1.1 million from an entrepreneur for supposedly influencing the decision-making by persons authorized to perform state functions.
The court found the suspect guilty under the articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- 190.4 - fraud;
- 369.4, 369.5 - incitement to completed attempt to provide illegal benefits to officials holding a responsible and especially responsible position.
The court verdict came into force.
The investigation was carried out by the SSU together with the NABU detectives under the procedural supervision of the SAPO.
