SBU cynologists win dog obedience competition
The SBU team won the Open Cynologists Championship under the program “Detector Dog Service 2”. Following the results of the competition, the instructor of the SBU CSO “A” with his dog Alpha took the honorable first place in detecting improvised explosive devices (IED).
The canine handlers of the National Police of Ukraine took the second place and the third place was taken by the BRIG Group Cynological Center.
In general, 66 representatives of various law enforcement agencies took part in the competition. Among them were canine handlers of the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Police of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), the State Security Administration, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and private security companies.
The competition tasks included IED, drug and weapon search activities conducted by the service dogs.
The championship was dedicated to the memory of Colonel Dmytro Kaplunov, the Hero of Ukraine. The Colonel of the SBU CSO “A” Dmytro Vitaliyovych Kaplunov was posthumously awarded the title of a Hero of Ukraine. During his life Dmytro Kaplunov was a professional dog trainer and sniper specialist. In December 2019 he tragically died in battle in the JFO area in eastern Ukraine.
