The SSU is working systematically to expose and prosecute members of illegal armed formations of the so-called L/DNR. The SSU Counterintelligence has established the identity of the commander of the militant sniper unit.

The identified commander together with his subordinates were sharpshooting Ukrainian military servicemen. The SSU ascertained his participation in hostilities against Ukrainian defenders of Donetsk airport.

In addition, the criminal systematically collected intelligence on the units of Ukrainian Armed Forces and passed it to Russian special services.

His supervisors were interested in information on the strength, positions and relocation of Ukrainian troops.

According to the investigation, the militant is a resident of Donetsk region, who in January 2015 voluntarily joined the armed groups of the so-called DNR. Since then, the individual has been taking part in the conflict.

The militant is currently hiding from justice in the temporarily occupied territories.

Following the SSU CI investigation, the court found the accused guilty of the crime under Article 258-3.1 (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization) of the CCU and sentenced him to 9 years in prison.

The convict is a wanted criminal.

The SSU Office in Volyn region carried out the pre-trial investigation under the supervision of Volyn Region Prosecutor’s Office.
