Crimean bridge is doomed - SSU Head Vasyl Maliuk
The Security Service of Ukraine is arranging many surprises for the enemy not only to destroy the Crimean bridge, but also, alongside the Defenсe Forces, to liberate all Ukrainian territories from the occupiers.
The SSU Head Vasyl Malyuk speaks about this in the first part of the documentary series SSU. Special Operations of Victory. The opening episode reveals details of operations to destroy the Crimean bridge.
‘There will be many surprises to come, not only for the Crimean bridge. The bridge is doomed,’ Vasyl Maliuk said.
He emphasized that the SSU had two successful hits of the bridge: the first in October 2022 – using a truck with explosives, and the second in July 2023 - with marine drones.
‘With the successful fire damage to the bridge, we have actually destroyed the myth about russia’s invincibility. This is a fake country,’ the SSU Head added.
According to Vasyl Maliuk, the Crimean bridge is an absolutely legitimate target for Ukraine: the international law, laws and customs of war, as well as Ukrainian legislation allow to attack this object. Disrupting the enemy’s military logistics is one of the tasks set for the special service by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
Blowing up the bridge has significantly complicated supply of weapons and ammunition to russian troops. Today, this logistics corridor is not fully functional: road transport moves in reverse, it is subject to weight restrictions, and restrictions on number of carriages - for railroad transport. So, the enemy mainly uses ferries to transport ammunition.
The SSU Head is confident that the successful use of maritime drones has significantly changed not only the approach to naval operations, but also the philosophy of warfare.
‘These are not just my words. This is the opinion of all our Western partners, naval officers, and heads of special services,’ he said.
Vasyl Maliuk noted that the Sea Baby is not just a naval drone, but a multi-purpose platform that is actively used for various tasks. The SSU has already had many successful cases of its use, for example, against ships of russia’s Black Sea fleet.
In October 2022, the SSU’s maritime drones attacked enemy vessels in the Sevastopol Bay. Four warships were damaged, including the Admiral Makarov frigate. This year, SSU drones hit the Samum and Pavel Derzhavin missile carriers, the Sig tanker, the Olenegorsky Gornyak landing ship, and damaged the Nikolai Muru military tugboat and the newest reconnaissance and hydrographic ship, the Vladimir Kozitsky.
