SBU CI exposed in Kharkiv region a former militant of the “DNR” terrorist organization, who is currently a serviceman of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

During the investigation, law enforcement officers established that in July 2014, a resident of Kharkiv region joined the illegal armed formation of the DNR terrorist organization. While being a rifleman of the so-called DNR special ops unit and Oplot Battalion, he served as a patrolman, guarding the militants-controlled facilities and location. For his service, the Kharkiv resident received about UAH 5,000 (USD 186) per month.

In October 2014, the militant intentionally decided to stop collaborating with terrorists and returned to Kharkiv region. Afterwards, the suspect joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

As of now, investigators of the SBU Office in Kharkiv region served the ex-militant a suspicion notice of creation of a terrorist group or terrorist organization (Art. 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The operation was carried out under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office of Kharkiv region.
