Lviv region: SBU blocks large-scale forging of PCR test results

The SBU blocked the falsification of PCR test results. The offenders forged the PCR test results, QR-codes, forms and seals of institutions that do laboratory tests.

According to intelligence, businesspersons engaged in issuance of documents for travel abroad, organized the illegal activity. They offered customers ready-made PCR tests with negative results. The forged documents were used for unimpeded crossing of the state border, as well as for avoiding the mandatory 14-day self-isolation after entering Ukraine.

Allegedly, they set up the illegal scheme after the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic. The cost of a certificate ranged from UAH 600 to 800 (USD 21 to 28). Certificates with QR-codes and forms of particular institution were more expensive. The offenders made up to 200 forged certificates per month.

According to experts, such actions could contribute to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and damage the Ukrainian image in the international arena.

During six searches, the SBU seized:

  • official documentation;
  • forged certificates of PCR test results;
  • counterfeit seals;
  • other evidence proving the illegal activities.

The investigation is ongoing.

The operation was carried out by the SBU Office in Lviv region jointly with National Police investigators, under the supervision of Lviv Region Prosecutor's Office.
