Sumy region: SSU CI cracks down on large-scale defence contractor fraud
In Sumy region, the SSU CI exposed a group that set up a scheme to supply used, low-quality equipment to a defence aviation company, disguising it as new in an attempt to misappropriate UAH 2.5 m (USD 95,421).
According to findings, certain companies signed contracts with SE Aviakon to supply military equipment.
The SSU documented that the managers of several home appliances retailers set up a scheme to supply used, subpar equipment instead of new high-precision military products. To avoid exposure, members of the group forged technical passports and other documents.
The improper tools were supposed to be used in the overhaul and repair of helicopters for the MoD of Ukraine and foreign clients.
The SSU is currently verifying the alleged supply of faulty military products worth UAH 15 m (USD 569,044) to other defence enterprises of Ukraine.
The searches of the suspects’ offices and homes led to the seizure of technical documents with signs of forgery and evidence of illegal activity.
The investigation into misappropriation through abuse of office and forgery of documents is ongoing to identify all individuals involved.
The SSU Office in Sumy Region together with the National Police carried out the operation under the supervision of Konotop District Prosecutor’s Office.
