In Sumy region, during a special operation, the SBU prevented an attack on a head of a united territorial community and two businessmen.

Allegedly, the crime was attempted by an organized group that terrorized citizens of the region. According to the SBU information, several criminals planned to seize money of three residents of Konotop district. It was established that the alleged victims were the head of the territorial community, a businessman and an owner of a local agricultural firm.

Law enforcement officers documented illegal actions of the offenders and prevented robbery of the businessman. The organizer of the group was detained by the SBU Alfa officers under Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine in his residence while dividing illegally obtained money.

The SBU special operation also prevented attacks against on the local official and an agricultural entrepreneur.

During searches of the offenders’ residences, firearms, ammunition and other evidence of illegal activity were seized. Law enforcement officers verify information about their possible involvement in other crimes.

Terms of detention and serving of suspicion notices within criminal proceedings are being considered.

The investigation of brigandism and unlawful handling of weapons is ongoing.

The operation was conducted jointly with investigators of the National Police in Sumy region under legal supervision of the local Prosecutor’s Office.
