Information provided by Medvedchuk in ‘coal’ and ‘pipeline’ cases confirms evidence previously collected by SSU - Ivan Bakanov
The information provided by Viktor Medvedchuk regarding purchase of coal in the so-called L/DNR in 2014-2015 and transfer of a part of Samara-Western Direction oil pipeline from state to private ownership confirms all the evidence gathered by the Security Service of Ukraine.
The Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Bakanov spoke about this during the national telethon.
‘In our opinion, Medvedchuk confirms the evidence and versions collected by the Security Service, based on which both Mr. Medvedchuk and Mr. Poroshenko were previously notified of suspicion of treason and terrorism financing. He talks about all the details and schemes. Therefore, we are confidently moving forward in the investigation of these extremely high-profile cases. And we’ll bring them to a logical conclusion. Because the law must apply regardless of names and circumstances,’ Ivan Bakanov stressed.
He underscored that each of these cases is at a different stage of investigation, and that collection and analysis of evidence, which began long before the war, is ongoing.
‘We are moving ahead consistently, but the court should finalize the case. It doesn’t matter how long ago the events took place - every participant should be held accountable before the law,’ the SSU Head noted.
In particular, the court will soon consider the case on subversive activities of the anti-Ukrainian project ‘Promin’, which involves Viktor Medvedchuk.
As for the ‘coal’ and ‘pipeline’ cases, Medvedchuk confirms the key role of Petro Poroshenko in them.
‘He confirms that former President Poroshenko used Medvedchuk’s ties with the russian leadership to organize certain business schemes. And they, according to the SSU, were definitely not in the interests of Ukraine. On the contrary, the economy and security of the state suffered direct losses. And this was facilitated by a number of high-ranking officials: based on Mr. Medvedchuk’s testimony, from ministers to the head of the National Bank,’ Ivan Bakanov said.
Such actions significantly increased russia’s influence on Ukraine's economy. ‘Information from Medvedchuk gives Ukrainian public a chance to see what the state policy was like before. This is really a question not only of legal responsibility, but also of moral responsibility. Because we saw an example of incredible political cynicism - when under patriotic slogans business issues were solved and even terrorists were financed. To make easy money, they let russia strengthen its influence on Ukraine,’ the SSU Head added.
We’ll remind that Medvedchuk, detained by the SSU, has told about schemes of transfer from the state ownership of a part of the main oil pipeline for pumping diesel through it and of purchase of coal from the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas.
Describing the schemes, Medvedchuk said that Poroshenko had not only asked him to contact russian leadership, but also had ensured that the necessary decisions had been made by Ukrainian entities.
