Organizers of chain of attacks in Kyiv follow proceedings in court
The SBU investigators have completed a pre-trial investigation against the organizers of the terrorist attacks in Kyiv that took place in the summer of 2020. The indictment was sent to court.
The perpetrators are accused of the following articles of the Criminal Code:
- Part 2 Art. 258 (Act of Terrorism),
- Part 1 Art. 263 (Unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives),
- Part 2 Art. 263-1 (Illegal producing, repairing of firearms or falsification),
- Part 2 Art. 15, part 2 Art. 258 (Criminal attempt to commit act of terrorism).
The sanctions of the articles include punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 12 years.
We will remind that during special operation in July, 2020 SBU established a location and detained two organizers of terrorist attacks in Kyiv. The attackers carried out attacks in a residential building in Podil district and near the capital's metro station.
In addition, law enforcement officers found and defused two terrorist explosive devices near another metro station and on the territory of a rubbish recycling plant.
It was established that the attackers used improvised explosive devices to commit terrorist acts.
After the first explosion, the terrorists demanded to transfer 50 bitcoins to an e-wallet with an encrypted message in the form of a QR code.
During investigative actions at offenders the law enforcement found:
- explosives;
- remote control means;
- instructions, which they used to make the improvised explosive device;
- communication equipment and laptops with evidence of illegal activity.
Measures to expose the offenses were carried out by officers of the SBU Main Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
