Defenders’ Day Greetings of SSU Acting Head Major-General Oleksandr Poklad

Dear Ukrainians! Sworn brothers and sisters!

We all understand perfectly well that the current war is about much more than territory. Much more is at stake: the right of the Ukrainian people to their future. On 1 October, we honour those who have taken on the responsibility of protecting that future.

russia launched the war confident in its own superiority, expecting to swiftly destroy our state, army and society. However, it miscalculated on the most crucial point: Ukrainian resistance.

Over the course of this full-scale war, we have established a robust national defence system, of which the Security Service of Ukraine is a key component.

Today, the Security Service of Ukraine carries out unique special operations thousands of kilometres from the front line and destroys the enemy on the battlefield. We are engaged in a constant battle to prevent russia from destabilising the situation in our country.

Every day, the SSU Counterintelligence detains enemy spies, agents and traitors. To date, the SSU has prevented over 400 terrorist attacks and acts of sabotage. Behind every one of these are the lives of Ukrainians that have been saved.

Security Service personnel are developing new technologies, modernising our weaponry, and refining our existing capabilities. After all, our main task is to adapt to new conditions faster than the enemy.

Ukrainians have learned to transform courage into a system. Experience into new capabilities. They have turned individual initiative into the strength of the state. However, the foundation of this strength is the people.

We remember everyone who gave their life for Ukraine. The best way to honour their memory is to continue to fight the enemy effectively.

We did not start this war. However, it is up to us to ensure that Ukraine emerges from it strong, sovereign, and capable of defending its future.

Glory to Ukraine!

Acting Head of the Security Service of Ukraine

Major General

Oleksandr Poklad
