The SBU documented corruption organized by officials of the Odesa Railway regional branch of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia. According to preliminary data, the offenders misappropriated almost UAH 1.5 million (USD 53,571) a month.

SBU operatives established that one of the officials of suburban railway line organized the illegal scheme. The subordinates illegally sold railway tickets. The offenders then misappropriated the cash from its sale.

According to the investigation, they misappropriated circa UAH 50,000 (USD 1,785) daily. Such activity caused multi-million losses. Investigation is estimating the exact sum of damage to the state budget.

According to Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, law enforcement officers detained the organizers when receiving part of the daily "revenue".

During searches of suspects’ residences and vehicles, the SBU seized:

• official documentation;
• almost UAH 200,000 and USD 3,000;
• computer equipment and mobiles proving illegal activity.

The issue of serving the offenders suspicion notices of corruption is being resolved. Custody is being chosen as a type of detention.

The operation was carried out by operatives of the SBU Office in Odesa region, under coordination of the SBU Main Directorate of CI Protection of State Economic Interests, under the supervision of Malynovskyi District Prosecutor's Office.
