SSU self-cleansing: SSU Internal Security detains senior officials from regional SSU Offices
The SSU Main Directorate for Internal Security has detained an intermediary and two Deputy Heads of regional SSU directorates who attempted to set up an illegal scheme in Rivne region.
According to the investigation, the organisers used the intermediary as a trusted go-between to demand USD 620,000 from the head of a monopoly company operating in the amber industry. In exchange, they promised to shut down criminal proceedings previously initiated against the company.
The operation was carried out as part of the SSU’s ongoing efforts to cleanse its ranks.
‘The Service’s internal cleansing remains our top priority. We continue to eradicate all forms of corruption and consistently hold those involved in such schemes accountable. Today’s arrests are further proof of that commitment. Corruption is unacceptable – and in wartime, it is tantamount to treason. Everyone involved will be held accountable,’ said Acting Head of the SSU, Yevheniy Khmara.
The SSU’s Internal Security Directorate apprehended both suspects and their accomplice in the act of receiving a bribe of over USD 270,000.
Smartphones containing evidence of their illegal activities were seized during the searches.
The investigators are currently preparing notices of suspicion under Article 368.3 of the CCU (acceptance, promising or receipt of an unlawful benefit by a public official).
The investigation is ongoing to identify and prosecute all those involved. The suspects face up to 10 years in prison, along with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
