SBU blocks smuggling of valuable commodities via Kyiv customs

Over the past week, the SBU blocked several attempts to smuggle valuable commodities and amber via Kyiv customs.

The SBU exposed a foreign passenger on hiding of amber jewelery (total weight is over 28 kilos).  He was checking in for a flight to a Gulf country. Moreover, law enforcement officers seized a batch of clothes and accessories of the well-known world brands from a Ukrainian who arrived from the Pyrenees. Another Ukrainian citizen planned to smuggle consumer electronics of a famous Asian manufacturer.

The SBU also exposed a Ukrainian importer that provided false information about imported goods, which are subject to mandatory declaration. Thus, a batch of components for smart watches was seized.

The reports on customs rules violation were drawn up.

All commodities illegally transported across the customs border of Ukraine were seized. According to the experts,  total value of the goods is almost USD 100,000.

The operation was conducted by the SBU Main Directorate for Counterintelligence Protection of State Economic Interests jointly with the Kyiv Customs of the State Customs Service.
