SSU and National Police detain repeat offender in Rivne who set fire to Armed Forces pickup truck on fsb order
The SSU and the National Police detained another fsb accomplice who was preparing a new series of arson attacks on Defense Forces vehicles in western Ukraine.
The criminal was a repeat offender from Rivne region. He had previously served a sentence for robberies and thefts, which brought him to the attention of the russian special service.
The fsb remotely engaged him in cooperation and, in exchange for a monetary reward, gave him a task to set fire to the vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
To carry out the enemy's task, the suspect walked around the territory of the regional center at night, where he tried to find parked cars of Ukrainian defenders.
He managed to set fire to one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' service pick-up trucks, after which law enforcement officers detained the offender in hot pursuit.
The fsb accomplice filmed the arson to send it to his russian handler, with whom he was communicating in an anonymous Telegram chat.
The russian special services planned to use this video to prepare special information operations (SIO) about the alleged existence of an anti-Ukrainian underground in the west of our country.
During the searches of the detainee's apartment, a mobile phone with evidence of criminal activity was seized. Also, flammable mixtures and a bank card were found in his possession, with which he hoped to receive a monetary "reward" from the fsb.
The SSU investigators served the enemy accomplice a notice of suspicion under Part 1 Art. 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (obstruction of the lawful activity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations).
The offender is in custody. He faces up to 8 years in prison.
The operation was conducted by the SSU Office in Rivne region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Rivne Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office in the Western Region.
