Investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine have classified the shooting of civilians and taking of hostages in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv as a terrorist attack.

A criminal proceeding has been opened under Part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – terrorist act resulting in the death of people.

According to available information, the crime was committed by a man born in 1968, armed with a registered firearm.

Six people have already died as a result of his actions, and according to preliminary data, seven more people have been hospitalised with injuries and wounds of varying severity.

The pre-trial investigation is underway under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

The SSU, the National Police, and the Prosecutor’s Office are taking comprehensive action to establish all the circumstances of the incident, including the shooter’s possible motives.
