SBU blocks forgery of COVID-19 certificates
SBU suspends a large-scale forgery of COVID-19 certificates. It was organized by the residents of Volyn, Lviv and Chernivtsi regions.
Allegedly, the cost of one forged certificate was UAH 1,600 (USD 60).
At their residences and in a rented office, dealers produced up to 20 documents daily.
They used details of licensed doctors and medical centers. Due to this, persons who bought forged documents could travel abroad unimpededly.
The offenders looked for the clients via the Internet, and sent the documents by mail throughout Ukraine.
During searches of the offenders’ residences, the SBU seized:
- Computers, printers and mobile phones;
- Files with blanks of international COVID-19 certificates;
- Duplicates of seals of medical centers;
- Bank cards used for receiving money, etc.
The investigation is ongoing within the criminal proceeding of forgery of documents, stamps, seals or letterheads, and sale or use of forged documents, to identify all the individuals involved in the illegal activities.
The operation was conducted by the SBU Office in Volyn region jointly with the National Police under the supervision of Volyn Region Prosecutor’s Office.
