SSU shuts down corruption scheme for issuing permits for cargo transportation to over 50 countries

In the state enterprise Ukrinteravtoservice, the SSU has exposed a criminal scheme of receiving money from carrier companies.

The head of one of the departments of this institution is involved in the organization of the scheme.

The official established a mechanism for regular receiving of bribes for permits for ‘unimpeded’ transportation of goods to all EU states and other countries of the European continent.

To do this, he promised to assist in obtaining permits from the member states of the European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT) for international freight transport.

Exporters must receive these documents according to the established procedure free of charge.

However, the official decided to ‘make money’ on this.

In exchange for USD 1,500 to 6,000, the individual guaranteed not to create artificial obstacles to obtaining such permits.

The official involved his relative in the unlawful activity as an intermediary to receive the money and ‘keep records’.

During the searches at the homes and offices of both suspects, the law enforcement found computer equipment with evidence of the crime and cash obtained by criminal means.

Both criminals have been notified of suspicion under Article 368.3 of the CCU (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of unlawful benefit by an official).

The investigation is ongoing.

The SSU exposed and documented the crime under the procedural supervision of Podilskyi District Prosecutor’s Office in Kyiv with the assistance of the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine.
