Ex-head of Kharkiv Juridical Personnel Training Institute suspected of treason: SSU submits case to court
The SSU has submitted to the court the proceeding on high treason by the former acting chief of the Institute for Training Juridical Personnel for the SSU of the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University in Kharkiv.
According to the investigation, with the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion, the traitor began to act in the interests of the aggressor state. He was effectively preparing the educational institution for ‘surrender’ to the russian occupation groupings that were approaching Kharkiv.
The official failed to timely relocate the Institute’s personnel and property to a designated site.
In addition, the traitor involved an employee of the institution in the subversive activity. The two of them tried to persuade the cadets to cooperate with russian occupiers, who were advancing on the city at the time.
As a result of a multi-stage special operation, the SSU exposed the criminal actions of the suspected official and detained him.
The SSU’s Main Directorate for Internal Security and investigators collected a strong evidence base, and the indictment has now been sent to court.
‘This is another signal to all those who have chosen the path of treason - no one aiding russia will escape punishment. Today, the SSU is systemically cleansing the state from enemy agents and pro-russian elements, and the SSU itself is under special focus. We have already done a lot, and we won’t stop till the last mole is exposed. After all, Ukraine needs an effective security service - to successfully carry out unique special operations and bring our Victory closer, while the traitors’ place is behind bars,’ the SSU Head Vasyl Maliuk commented.
During the searches at the suspect’s home, the SSU found evidence of sabotage activities against Ukraine, as well as explosives, ammunition for firearms and ‘RGD’ hand grenades.
Based on the collected evidence, the SSU notified the official of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.1 (high treason);
- 263.1 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives).
The offender is facing up to 15 years in prison.
The SSU is investigating the proceeding under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
