SSU shows wreckage of ‘Geran’ drone used by russia to strike Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra (video)

The Security Service of Ukraine has established that russia struck the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra with a Geran-2 unmanned aerial vehicle, which is the russian version of the Iranian Shahed kamikaze drone.

This conclusion was reached based on an analysis of the drone wreckage found at the impact site.

As the investigation revealed, the enemy attacked the monastery complex at 01:50 on 15 June 2026 during a massive bombardment of the Ukrainian capital.

Following an inspection of the scene, the SSU team discovered fragments of the fuselage and engine of the russian one-way attack drone that had struck the St. Stephen’s Chapel of the Dormition Cathedral within the Lavra grounds.

An examination of the wreckage of the enemy drone revealed that some of its components were manufactured in russia within the Alabuga Special Economic Zone.

This is evidenced by the markings found on the fragments of the russian drone.

As a result of the strike, the cathedral’s roof structures, domes, walls and glazing were damaged. There were no fatalities or injuries.

Neighbouring civilian infrastructure buildings in the Pecherskyi district of Kyiv were also damaged by the blast wave.

SSU investigators classified this strike as a war crime and have already initiated criminal proceedings under Article 438.1 of the CCU. Efforts to establish all the circumstances of the russian attack and bring those responsible to justice are underway.

The investigation is carried out under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
