SBU prevents ecological disaster in Vinnytsia region (video)
The Security Service of Ukraine exposed the management of one of the Vinnytsia enterprises on illegal dumping of hazardous industrial waste. Every month, dealers illegally landfilled almost 500 tons of toxins in the open country, near settlements.
According to preliminary data of the investigation, the representatives of the Ukrainian company signed an agreement with one of the Russian companies for the purification of technical glycerin and the export of finished products to Russia.
It was assumed that harmful substances formed in the process of technological processing of raw materials should be disposed of. However, the dealers, in order to obtain excess profits, secretly, without proper permits, transported them to a leased plot outside the regional center. Moreover, they operated for several years, constantly increasing the volume of hazardous waste, which could cause an environmental disaster.
According to the results of laboratory examinations initiated by the SBU, chemical elements that contaminate groundwater and soils were found in samples from landfill.
During searches in the offices of the scheme participants, law enforcement officers found:
- documentary materials;
- draft records;
- computer equipment with evidence of illegal activity.
In addition, specialists of the State Ecological Inspectorate of Ukraine recorded the volume of pollution of the territories, as well as other gross violations of current legislation, about which a relevant act was drawn up. The issue of suspension of the enterprise's activity in a legal procedure is being resolved.
The investigations are under way within the criminal proceedings initiated by SBU investigators for bringing to justice the persons involved in the crime.
Measures to expose and block the deal were carried out by officers of the SBU Office in Vinnytsia region in coordination with the SBU Main Directorate for Counterintelligence Protection of the State's Interests in the Sphere of Economic Security and the procedural management of the Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor's Office.
