The SBU prevents large-scale misappropriation during the restoration of Molochnyi Estuary
In Zaporizhzhia, the SBU exposed the scheme of misappropriation of state funds allocated for the construction of a canal to restore the water connection of the Sea of Azov with Molochnyi Estuary.
In 2018, the state and the company signed UAH 56,5 million (USD 2 million) contract to enlarge the canal and to construct hydraulic systems.
Allegedly, the perpetrators tried to misappropriate a part of these funds through the artificial overestimation of the works expenditure. Thus, they planned to misappropriate more than UAH 3 million (USD 107,000).
During the searches of the contractor's offices, the law enforcement officers seized accounting documents, computer equipment and other materials proving the illegal activity.
Currently, the head of the firm was served a notice of suspicion of completed attempt to seize someone else's property by abuse of office, committed in respect of an especially gross amount (Part 2 of Art. 15, Part 5 of Art. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation is ongoing. All the circumstances of the case are being established. The involvement of the officials in the deal is being checked.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
