The Security Service of Ukraine prevented a contract killing of a Kyiv IT businessman and detained the person who ordered the killing.

The SBU operatives established that a Kyiv resident was looking for a hitman to kill a business partner. The suspect had a conflict with the victim due to common deals in a well-known company that dealt with cryptocurrencies and had some features of the so-called "financial pyramid". The suspect estimated the life of the partner at USD 5,000. 

The law enforcement officers imitated the disappearance and then murder of the victim in Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv city, after which they reported on execution of the contract killing.

In accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, the SBU detained the suspect in Odessa city immediately after handing the second part of the reward to the “hitman” and “hitman’s” photo report on the murder.

Within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings, the detainee was served a suspicion note of committing contract murder (Part 2 Article 15, Paragraph 6, 11 of Part 2 of Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The issue of choosing custody as a form of detention is being settled.

The investigation is ongoing.
