SSU serves suspicion notice to belarusian mercenary who fought against Ukraine as part of Wagner PMC

The SSU has collected comprehensive evidence on another citizen of belarus who voluntarily fought against Ukraine.

Last July, the man joined the ranks of the kremlin-controlled private military company Wagner.

As a member of the russian occupation grouping, he took part in warfare against Ukrainian troops near Bakhmut.

However, in November 2022, the mercenary was captured by the Defence Forces during combat near Kurdiumivka, Donetsk region.

According to the investigation, the foreigner signed a contract with the Wagner group to ‘earn’ some money.

To do this, he arrived at a training camp of the russian PMC and underwent a ten-day combat training course.

Then, the recruit was transferred to the eastern front to storm combat positions of Ukrainian troops.

After the capture, the belarusian gave the SSU evidence of war crimes committed by the russian occupation groups and identities of persons involved in them.

He also spoke about torture, absence of payments and murder in the Wagner PMC for non-complying with orders.

Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators served the militant a notice of suspicion under the Article 447.4 of the CCU (participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict, military or violent activities).

The suspect is currently in custody and is facing up to 10 years in prison.

The SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions carried out the investigation under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
