SSU declares russian guard commander suspect for shooting at Ukrainian prisoners who refused to speak russian
The SSU systemically exposes crimes of russian occupation troops that torture and abuse Ukrainian prisoners of war.
As a result of an investigation, the SSU documented criminal actions of another ruscist – chief of the group for work with personnel of the 376th separate operational battalion of the russian guard, Konstantin Yudin.
In early April 2023, acting as one of the leaders of this military unit, he arrived at a russian checkpoint in the temporarily occupied Enerhodar, Zaporizhzhia region.
At that time, there were Ukrainian prisoners of war on the territory of the checkpoint - the occupiers intended to involve them in dismantling fortifications.
However, Yudin gave another order - to line up the captured Ukrainian defenders for interrogation. The russian commander was interested in their personal data and how they were captured.
He demanded that his questions be answered exclusively in russian.
According to the investigation, one of the prisoners answered in Ukrainian. After that, the ruscist took the man to an outbuilding near the checkpoint and, threatening with a weapon, ordered him to face the wall.
Yudin then fired a pistol shot at the victim’s right leg, causing the prisoner to sustain a gunshot wound to the knee joint.
The ruscist repeated his demand to speak only russian with him, but the Ukrainian refused to comply with the enemy’s order.
Then Yudin fired another shot close to the prisoner’s head, but this did not force the Ukrainian to answer in russian.
The perpetrator then took the victim to other prisoners and threatened to shoot them if he heard Ukrainian again.
Based on the evidence collected, SSU investigators notified Yudin of suspicion under Article 438.1 of the CCU (violation of laws and customs of war).
Comprehensive efforts are underway to bring the offender to justice for his crimes.
The investigation was conducted jointly with the National Police under the supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
