SSU notifies suspicion to woman who attacked volunteer and activist Serhiy Sternenko (video)
Investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine have notified the perpetrator, who on May 1 attempted to murder volunteer and activist Serhiy Sternenko, of suspicion.
The woman is suspected of committing crimes under the Articles of the CCU:
- 15.2, 27.3, 115.2 (attempted murder for mercenary motives, committed on order, upon prior conspiracy, by a group).
The detainee is a 45-year-old native of Odesa region who lived in the capital. At the end of last year, while looking for quick money on the Internet, she was recruited remotely by russian special services.
At first, she observed specific cars on the orders of her handlers, photographed them, and passed the data to her ‘contact’.
The agent then began to receive new tasks: she had to make a homemade explosive device and move to an apartment in downtown Kyiv.
In mid-April, she began following civil society activist and volunteer Serhiy Sternenko, moving into the same residential complex as him.
Later, she received the coordinates of a cache where a firearm—a PM pistol and ammunition—was hidden.
On the morning of May 1, 2025, her handler instructed her to kill the activist near his home. Due to prior surveillance, the perpetrator already knew the make of the car and the approximate time when the volunteer left home.
As Serhiy Sternenko left the building, the russian agent fired several shots, one of which hit him in the leg. The attacker was immediately detained at the scene by officers of the Security Service of Ukraine.
A search revealed a phone with evidence of her work for russia, as well as components for a homemade explosive device, stored in another apartment.
The SSU’s pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Efforts are underway to establish all the circumstances of the crime and bring those responsible to justice.
The suspect faces up to 15 years in prison.
The investigation is carried out under the procedural supervision of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
