SSU serves suspicion notice to occupation head of Zaporizhzhia NPP, who disconnected plant from Ukrainian power grid
The SSU has collected evidence against another russian official involved in spreading the occupation regime in the temporarily captured part of Ukraine.
As a result of an investigation, the ‘director’ of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant Oleh Romanenko was notified of suspicion.
Prior to this ‘appointment’, Romanenko was the chief engineer of Balakovo Nuclear Power Plant in Saratov region, russia.
When the Ukrainian energy facility was seized, Romanenko became the ‘director’ of ‘Zaporizhzhia NPP operating organization’ established by the invaders, which is part of Rosatom structure.
According to the investigation, between March 11 and November 2022, he fulfilled the instruction from moscow to disconnect the NPP from Ukraine’s unified energy system.
Subsequently, Romanenko organized the work of the nuclear facility for russia’s benefit.
To do this, he incited NPP staff to support the occupiers and collaborate with them.
In case employees disagreed, he threatened with ‘dismissal’ and persecution by russian punitive bodies.
Based on the evidence collected, SSU investigators notified the NPP ‘director’ of suspicion under the Articles of the CCU:
- 28.2, 438.1 (violation of laws and customs of war);
- 27.4, 28.2, 111.2 (high treason committed under martial law).
The suspect is facing life imprisonment.
The investigation is carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
