SSU declares russian general who ordered destruction of Mriya aircraft suspect

The SSU has collected evidence against lieutenant general Anatoliy Kontsevoy, deputy commander of russia’s airborne troops, involved in the aggressive war against Ukraine.

It was on his orders that the occupiers temporarily captured Hostomel Airport in the early days of the full-scale invasion.

Then, during active warfare, russian invaders destroyed the world’s largest Ukrainian aircraft, the AN-225 Mriya.

To assault the strategically important airfield in Ukraine, Kontsevoy used special purpose units of airborne troops and army aviation.

The investigation established that the russian general is a member of the highest military command of russia’s armed forces and was directly involved in planning, preparing and committing armed aggression against Ukraine.

Since 2019, Kontsevoy has organized training of paratroopers in russia and belarus, teaching to capture strategic ground targets in our country.

Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators notified Kontsevoy of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 110.3 (encroachment on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and inviolability);
  • 28.2 and 437.2 (planning, preparation, unleashing and waging of an aggressive war, committed upon prior conspiracy).

These crimes are punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

Comprehensive measures to bring the offender to justice for crimes against Ukraine are underway.

The investigation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
